Checked Blazer

This blazer seems just as in vogue now as it was when the pattern was drafted, in 1992. I found this Butterick pattern in the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop in Redding, California, the same place I found the fabric. The print of the fabric reminded me of the famous Burberry print that they make their $430 scarves out of.

There was 5 yds, which is a large amount to find at a thrift shop. At fist I wasn’t sure what to make with it, because it is such a big print that stands out in a crowd. When I made the oversized blazer, I wasn’t sure I would like it, since I’m not really into wearing loud outfits, but this jacket looks perfect with skinny jeans, a white t-shirt, and some Converse.

The pattern claims to need 3 yards, but used less, and the blazer still falls pretty long on my short frame. I made view B, which is without the notch in the collar. While they used fusible interfacing, I skipped this because the fabric I used was stiff enough, I wanted my to be more casual than the pattern.

It took me about 4 hours to complete, but I did use french seams (finished seams opposed to unfinished) everywhere except the sleeves, which I wanted slightly puffed. I left off the pockets.

Now for the price of this cute item. The fabric (5 yds)- $5, pattern- $0.25. The buttons and thread I already had.

A fun fact- This is the first project I’ve made using a dressing dummy. I LOVED it. It felt so professional. Now where to store it in our RV…
