Taylor Swift said it best when she sang, “August slipped away into a moment in time…” It was a crazy month! From travelling to work to getting settled at my new University, a lot happened!
My August started with a trip to Asheville, NC for the Delight Leadership Conference. I have mentioned Delight before, but in case you don’t know, Delight is an all-women Bible study I have been going to for a year. This year I am on the leadership team and we are so excited for fall kickoff! But this conference was so amazing. We had leadership classes but also worship nights and the opportunity to meet girls from chapters across the United States! Also, a dear friend frim Gainesville happened to be in Asheville so she picked me up from the airport and we were able to spend the afternoon together before she dropped me at the conference center.
While the conference itself was wonderful, my trip home was crazy. I was dropped off at the airport around 9am because my team needed to start their drive back to Florida and I honestly don’t mind hanging at the airport. My iPad was loaded with books and movies so I wasn’t bored. Originally my flight was to leave Asheville around 5:30pm, get to Charlotte around 7pm, and then my flight to Scranton left around 8pm and I would be home before midnight. That was all thrown out the window when my flight out of Asheville was delayed until 7pm so I would miss my connection. I went back out through security to talk to customer service. They got me on a flight to Philadelphia from Charlotte. More time passes and I don’t board my flight from Asheville until 9pm. The 20 minutes flight goes by quick but when we reach Charlotte the plane just sits on the runway. There is no gates open to deboard the plane. As we sit there, the time for the flight to Philly gets closer and closer, until they decide to delay that flight as well. Every few minutes I am refreshing the American Airlines app, seeing that the flight is being pushed back later and later. After about an hour sitting in line to get a gate we make it and I have only couple minutes to make it to my next plane. I get there and board the plane to Philly around 11:45pm. We push back and get in line to take off but miss our window. The pilot is no longer allowed to fly because he has been on duty too many hours. The plane gets back in line for a gate, which are all full again. All around me people are calling hotels and car rentals, looking for another way home. But all hotels are full because almost every flight that night was cancelled from Charlotte. Once we are at the gate there are no staff to open the jetway so we sit on the plane with nothing to do and nowhere to go. Around 1am they finally let us off and told us to get in line for customer service to rebook the flight. The next available flight to Philly was 10:40pm that night, which was way to far out for me. Then at 2am I was able to speak to someone who booked me on the 9:30 am flight to Scranton. All that was left to do was chill in the airport for 7 hours. I was not going to sleep so I read until 5am when I went for a walk and to get some Chick-fil-a. Only 4 hours left. I boarded my flight seamlessly then and made it to Scranton by 11am – 26 hours after I went to the airport.
Now that whole story is not to say I hate flying or American Airlines. I still love flying and will use American in the future. The whole thing was an adventure!
Mid-August we left Pennsylvania and made our way to Florida for the start of the school year. Before we left, my extended family and I went to a Zach Brown concert, which was honestly better than I expected! We spent a little time in Greenville, SC which is gorgeous and got settled in Gainesville before term started. The first week of class comprised of long to-do lists and catching up with friends! I also made a trip to the beach to celebrate a friend’s birthday, which was fun! I live in Florida and only go to the beach about twice a year, which is sad.
This year I am on Leadership for Delight Ministries, co-lead my churches College Group and co-lead Hot Girl Walks (a walking group for girls). I also frequently attend ballet classes, and volunteer for a racing blog online, which leaves my schedule pretty full! Of course, I also have classes (Biology, a Biology Lab, Children’s Lit, British Lit, Global Perspectives and Italian). I love them all but Biology, which is pretty good on the whole. In September I also attended all the football game days because I have season tickets and the Gator Spirit is unmatched. Since I do have homework that needs to get done, I will leave you with a few photos and see you in September’s post!

Listening to Burn Again by Ecclesia. A friend got me hooked on this song! Podcast-wise, my taste hasn’t changed and I continue to listen to the same ones a always! You can see them listed in other posts.
Reading a lot of George Eliot for class. My British Literature class is only her works, so I will know her pretty well by Christmas.
Watching a lot of New Girl. I started a while ago, but recently started watching again and I love it!
You are one busy gal! Know you like it that way! Love you Dolly, Gram
