This must be one of the most elegant projects I’ve ever made, besides the suit I made shortly before this project.
I had been dallying with the idea of a jumpsuit for a long time now, but I always assumed it would be a casual, comfy affair made out of jersey fabric. But when I eye caught this pattern in the Desert Thrift Shop, I knew I needed a jumpsuit like it. I loved the neckline, with the dip in the middle, and how it used darts to define the waist.
I walked out of the store with the pattern, but not any fabric to go with it. I had seen fabric that would work well, but we had other plans for the day, so I had to scoot out quickly. I though about the fabric I had seen for the rest of the week, and convinced myself I needed it. I went back, and thankfully it was still there.
The jumpsuit is made out of a sort of satin-y material. When you buy fabric like that at a thrift shop, you never can be sure what kind it its, or the fibers it is made of. It was a while ago, but I believe it was 3.5 yds of fabric. As you’ll see with some of the upcoming projects, I nearly always have less fabric than the pattern says you need for. I find that they over estimate the needed amount, especially with the smaller sizes. Unlike buying fabric from a craft store, you’ll never find more of the fabric if it turns out you don’t have enough.
Anyway, I started cutting and sewing. As I cut it out, I discovered there were pockets! (I love pockets) It went together quickly, besides being a slippery fabric to work with.
In all, the project took 4 hours, and cost $12 in all: Fabric (3.5 yds)- $8, Zipper -$3, Pattern -$1.

P.S. Aren’t these shoes the cutest?
